Description Radisson Blu Park Lane
This 5 star hotel is located in the city centre of Antwerp and was established in 1995. It is close to the Antwerp Zoo and the nearest station is Plantin. The Hotel has a restaurant, a bar, a conference room, a coffee shop, an indoor swimming pool and a fitness centre/gym. All 156 rooms are equipped with minibar, hairdryer, safe, trouser press air conditioning.
It was built between 1313 and 1380 and is 91 metres high. It has served as a bell tower to announce the time and various warnings, but also as a fortified watchtower. The upper part has been rebuilt many times, especially to accommodate the growing number of bells.
The Belfry consists of 6 floors hosting art objects, historical documents such as the original plans of the building, and a clock by J.B.Richet (1670) wihich controls a 52-bell carillon. On each bell is a girl and a lion image, the symbol of Ghent.
During the tour one can visit the tower, the carillon and the Bellmuseum.
The Belfry has been listed as UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999.
Visiting hours: from 15th March until 15th November 10:00-18:00. From 01st May until 01st October guided tours at 14:10, 15:10 and 16:10. Not accessible to people on wheelchairs.
Entrance fee: 3 â‚¬; children until 12 years free.
Champ de Bataille de Waterloo
This is the site for the final battle of Napoleon Bonaparte. His loss finished his rule as Emperor of France. Principal Commanders were Napoleon Bonaparte for the French, while the Duke of Wellington of the United Kingdom and General Gebhard von Blucher of Prussia commanded the armies of the Seventh Coalition.
The location of the battlefield is about 20 minutes south of Brussels. It can be reached via auto on Ring Quest, junction 25, by bus route 365 and via train using the Brussels-Charleroi line.
Hours of operations vary by season from April to October 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. from November to March 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is open every day of the year except December 25th.
While visiting one can either tour for free or can hire the guided tour. Full tour is 8.7€, Battlefield tour is 5.5 €, and the battlefield tour and full tour is 12€.
There is a visitor center. It is open all year.
