PaPaw's and MUH's 3 week road trip to middle east coast states had to include The Blue Ridge Parkway from end to end. With first grandson at 4 in tow, this vacation began in earnest. He started Pre K the day after we returned. Did not miss his mother until about an hour and half from home. Of course, he talked to her everyday and she received a picture of him every day. He visited 6 states and Washington D.C. He had his own navigation system on his passenger window, so that he could make sure we were going where we were scheduled and so that he did not hurt his neck and back looking at the one in the front console.
He knew from his navigation unit where each turn our was and insisted that we turn out on every one of them. The Blue Ridge Parkway is a must travel roadway if you have not been there done that. There are quaint villages along the way, beautiful vistas and remarkable photo ops. Just could not keep 3 cameras powered up enough. There are many educational points along the way.
I think to do the Blue Ridge Parkway justice, you should spend 3 days driving which ever direction you find suits your itinerary best.

Most exit and on ramp directional signage is easy but several times they were confusing especially with the road closures now and again. Our navigation system was invaluable, with the "in real time" directions on construction situations or closures and detours.
There are too many "Must Sees", one would not have enough time with a normal vacation time lapse.
By planning every night stop and watching gas prices, we kept to our budget. We planned to spend ALL our assets budgeted for the vacation. By negiotating directly with management at an attraction or hotel we were well under budget by $7.38. Hotels have a standard rule 'bodies in beds". Surprisingly attractions felt the same way of guests paid and inside the gate.
