Biltmore House is the largest house on the East Coast of America and is the largest privately owned house in the country. George Washington Vanderbilt 11 had it built between 1888 and 1885 and it is still lived in today by one of his descendants. The house covers an area of 16,300sqm and contains 250 different rooms. It stands in within a large parkland with landscaped gardens. Both the house and its gardens are open for visitors and it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the region.
