It is not easy to reach the 9th biggest country in the world and to land in its new capital Astana. It took me almost 12 hours and two flights to arrive there initially boarding from Sofia with an interim stay at Moscow airport. I was on a business trip and my hosts chose for me one of the most luxurious hotels. The Rixos is situated in the monumental new part of this old city, where sky scrapes and tours rise above the flat country. It is a very expensive place, but modern hotels here usually are. I was offered a discount price, but the standard single/double room was still over 250 dollars per night. You’ll find it very reasonable when you stroll though the spacious lobby and the winter garden with its huge palm trees and fountain amid refreshing flowers. The bar is very trendy and mostly Turkish clerks are efficient and friendly. Once in your room, you’ll find the bathroom with its Jacuzzi most comfortable, the ample space with a large double bed facing a TV wall, and the view from the windows fascinating. The breakfast is very frugal and relaxed with a lovely Kazakh lady in a black gown playing exquisite cello music. When you emerge from this 5-star oasis in the morning, Astana will greet you with its surprising architecture blending the modern with the traditional design. An emerging great city for a new and dynamic state at the heart of XXI century Asia!
