I spent a week at the Melia in Barcelona when attending a training course at IESE about 7 years ago. It was a very pleasant and comfortable hotel and was located close to the Diagonal and about a half hour walk from the IESE college. Although we were catered for every night as part of the training course, there were plenty of restaurants and bars in the area. It’s not really ‘central’ Barcelona as it’s quite a walk to the downtown area, but there’s still lots to see and do in the district.
The hotel was stylish and understated with an air of unflashy quality about it. The rooms were a good size and well-equipped and with pleasant inoffensive décor. To be honest, I don’t recall too much about how the rooms were, which is a sure fire way of knowing that they were neither awful (which I always remember) nor stunningly different. The restaurant served an excellent breakfast every morning though I tried not to go every day because a week of hotel breakfasts is a bit too heavy.
The hotel has good internet service including an internet corner if you’ve not brought your own PC. The gym and pool are impressive and the bar is stylish and unstuffy.
It’s not the MOST central of Barcelona hotels but it’s one I remember fondly.
