Who ever thought you can see the island of Barbados in only 30 minutes. Well I didn't, but with Bajan Helicopters it's possible. After I called the reservation desk and asked to give me one reason for making a reservation they told me "A unique chance to see how Barbados unfolds it's beautiful secrets by air". So we decided to take the 50 mile tour the next day. When arriving at Bridgetown it's easy to find, just follow the traffic sign to the heliport. From Christ Church to the Heliport it took us only 15 minutes by car, so the accessibility is perfect. After a word of welcome they asked us if we had any wishes for the flight. If you want to know more about helicopter like, why does it fly or the risks they are willing to explain you.
The Eurocopter Dauphin is the one we used and a very comfortable helicopter. After a quick and nice takeoff to the left we flew just 100 meter above the beach in airport direction and shortly arrived at the cliffs along the Atlantic Ocean side. It's really a beautiful viewing the rugged cliffs and some nice rock formations. Halfway the pilot brought it straight up (50 degrees vertical) to the top of the only mountain on the island and turned around with high speed down to sea level. That moment you discover how flexible a helicopter can be. For those who don't have a strong stomach, eat after the tour ;-) The flight continued further to the north with the tea farms and their big houses crossing along the west coast with his curving sugar sand beaches and cruise ships back to Bridgetown. During the flight the pilot is trying to explain everything on what you're viewing so at the end you know a lot about Barbados history but finally, time flies when having fun, the tour came to an end.
The tour is suitable for children but I would consider not to take children with you on a flight if they are under the age of 10. It's not a problem to take them with you but the pilot will fly a little bit more carefully.
The price is a little bit high but it's really something unique to do and worth the money. Total time from arriving at the heliport and leaving took us 1h30m.
