My family and I had the rather dubious pleasure of staying at this Hotel in January 2007, and were ultimately pleased that it was only for a single night. The exterior of the building - a former Council housing block - really does do the Holiday Inn justice.
Aside from the bright and spacious Lobby - with passageways leading to tantalising glimpses of the opulent Hotel restaurant/bar and the breakfast room - the Hotel is largely dark, shabby and in need of some attention.
It's almost as if the Hotel used to be some oversized and rather tawdry B&B, and Holiday Inn bought it for a song and simply changed the name badges and introduced staff uniforms.
For the price - roughly £75 a room - I was not amused at the quality of our stay, although I will point out that the breakfast was both plentiful and of a high standard. Perhaps they have outside caterers!

View? A back alley up the side of the Hotel - you win some, you lose some!
Size - a bit small - I had to move the bed a few inches so that I could reach the window for some air.
Features - standard for a Hotel Chain really.
Cleanliness/Room Condition. Dirty, smoke infused room, leaking Air Con that required a replacement heater, tide marks on the bath.... need I go on?
Needless to say - we demanded a room change, and although not much of an improvement, we were at least able to sleep in ther comfy bed without fear of catching anything.

Lobby was nice and inviting. Comfy sofas, free papers, piped music etc.
Staff perfectly nice - I guess they don't have to look at the outside of the building much. Just look at it!!
Didn't feel relaxed by the end of my stay - only the gusty sea swells across the road from the breakfast room offered any sense of tranquility.

Breakfast room was a bit small for a Hotel of this size, but the food was plentiful, varied and excellent. Hot and cold, fruit, cereal, juices, nice coffee etc. Even sneaked a paper in to have a relaxing morning and take my mind off the room!

Opposite the seafront. 10 minute walk into the shopping centre, where money spending opportunities abound. Plenty of nightlife around - hence the lack of a quiet ambience.
Transportation? Good luck trying to park anywhere in Brighton - but yet the buses are too far apart to be a reliable option!
