Centre for the Book
Open Monday to Friday from 08h30 -16h30, the centre is affiliated to the nearby SA National Library and aims to promote literacy in South Africa. It is located in an Edwardian building which has been proclaimed a National Monument in 1990 and visitors who wish to view the premises are advised to make an appointment in advance. The central hall houses a selection of books by local publishers, which can be browsed by visitors. The venue is also used for seminars and can be hired for corporate events.
With a VIP section and located in a typical Old Cape building, the Rhodes House offers a number of upstairs bars, dance floor and a large courtyard. Frequent themed parties are held at the venue, which can also be rented for private functions. Live entertainment is provided and open hours are from 22h00 to 04h00.
