Doma is located outside the walls of the old Venetian harbor with an exclusive view of the bay of Chania. When arriving in Chania by ferry or by plane it takes only 15 minutes to arrive. If you would like to walk to the old Venetian Port, the distance from the hotel is only 20 minutes. Doma has long been regarded as one of the most distinctive hotels on Crete, in part because it was one of the first located in a heritage building. (There is, however, an elevator for those who cannot take stairs.) a neoclassical mansion from the turn of the century that was once, among other things, the British consulate; its public areas are decorated with authentic Cretan heirlooms and historical pictures. Bedrooms and bathrooms are not especially large, but are perfectly adequate. The four suites are much roomier. Front units have the great view of the sea but also the sound of passing traffic, even though the hotel is far from the noise of the center of town. The third-story dining room offers fresh breezes and a superb view of Old Chania; breakfast here includes several homemade delights, while evening dinner brings Cretan specialties. Among its special features is a museum-quality display of headdresses from all over the world. The Doma is not for those seeking luxury, but should appeal to travelers who appreciate a discreetly old-world atmosphere. Doma is a neo-classical mansion originally built as the Austrian Consulate in the early 19th Century.
