Closer to the nature

National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History is my favorite museum in Moldova. I've visited it for several times and I'm going to visit it more. I like also the building of the museum itself. It's the only building of Oriental style in Chisinau.

  • The museum is quite conveniently located, almost in the city center. There's no car park however you may leave the car on the street near the museum. There's also public transport going right near museum. So, you may use it too.

In the museum you may see the animals who are or were been living on the territory of Moldova and the plants which are or were been growing in this region. That is about nature. However the museum also invites you to learn how did people lived on this territory, what they did in their every-day life, what tools have they used, their costumes and lots more. I found that extremely interesting! Probably that's just my opinion of the person who lives here and I'm just interested in all these, but I think everyone will find that interesting.

The museum staff was quite polite to us. Some of them even offered us to take a photo of us to our camera or said from which point the photos will be better. I saw also guided excursions but never took part in them. I think the guide should be booked in advance as nobody offered us any. By the way, the fee is very low. We've paid about 1 US dollar for 2 persons and for the permission to take photos. Well, I think entrance fee for foreigners is a bit higher but anyway not to high.

On the second floor of the museum there are often different exhibitions. The last time I've visited museum there was an exhibition of works by members florists club "Diana". There were different compositions made from dry flowers and grasses. Members of the club collects flowers, grasses, sticks, leaves and other materials for there future works. Then they dry them and make wonderful compositions. The majority was really nice compositions but I was totally impressed by pictures made of this materials. These were real pictures, For instance, a girl walking in the street.

So, visiting the museum is every time different as you see not only the museum items but also every time a new exhibition which also has as an aim to get closer to Moldovan people and nature.

If the foreigner comes to Moldova and asks me about what museum should he visit this one is the first I will recommend.
