    Aspen Ski Resort is comprised of four different adjacent mountains. Season varies by mountain; Snowmass (the largest) and Aspen Mountain (the oldest also known as Ajax) open about mid November through mid April; Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk open early December through early April. Ski-able terrain varies by mountain going from 470 acres for Buttermilk to 3132 acres for Snowmass. Lifts open at 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily. Aspen Mountain is accessible from the center of town. Lift tickets are most affordable when purchased seven days in advance and on line. Denver is 220 miles away. Several nearby airports also provide access including Apsen/Pitkin county airport (3 miles from town) Eagle County (near Vail 70 miles from Aspen) and Denver for international flights.

    Vail Ski Resort has been voted best ski area in the United States fourteen of the last seventeen years. It is the largest ski area in the United States with 5289 acres. There are 34 lifts. The longest run is 4 miles. The area is broken down 18% beginner, 29% intermediate and 53% advanced and expert. Several of the lifts have a restaurant at the top of them. The area is open for skiing from about the middle of November to about the middle of April depending on snow conditions. Hours of operation run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the first half of the season and to 4 p.m. during the second half of the season. Different from most areas in that the ski area built the town. The town is located right off interstate 70. Vail is a year round resort with golf, hiking, horseback riding and other summer activities available during the summer. Adult mid season ticket price is $92 when bought at the window. However purchasing seven days in advance and internet purchases gain more favorable rates.

    Dinosaur Diamond Prehistoric Highway

    Consisting of a combination of Interstate, National, and State highways this 512 mile loop lies within the states of Utah and Colorado. It was designated a scenic byway by the United States Secretary of Transportation based on several different grading criteria. There are several different attractions and cities located along the route and you will have a chance to see dinosaur bones being excavated, visit museums that showcase those bones and reconstructions of dinosaurs of all kinds. Attractions on the route include the Dinosaur National Monument, Canyonlands National Park, Arches National Park and much more. Enjoy the scenery by driving through a landscape that is shaped by mountains and valleys, plateaus and cliffs, rock formations such as natural arches, forests and desert. If you feel like getting out of the car and burn some energy there are plenty of possibilties on the way. Apart from hundreds of miles of hiking trails you can go camping, fishing, mountain biking, river rafting and kayaking and the cities and towns you'll pass on the way offer further recreational oportunities.Please note that the use of the scenic byway is free but there might be admission charges for the attractions on the way.

    Trail Ridge road lies mostly within the Rocky Mountain National Park, connecting the towns of Grand Lake on the west and Estes Park on the east via U.S. Highway 34. This is the highest continuous paved highway in the United States with a maximum elevation of 12183 ft (3713 m). Mount Evans Scenic Byway is higher but ends in a dead end. The highway is closed during the winter due to extreme snow pack. Most years the target for opening is the Memorial Day weekend. It remains open until there is a significant snowfall, which is usually in October. Rocky Mountain National Park entrance fees apply. The fee for a private vehicle is $20 and is valid for 7 days. For individuals (pedestrians, bicycles, and motorcycles) $10 entrance fee is required.

    The Wheeler Opera House looks back on a colourful history. Built in 1888/89 by Jerome B. Wheeler, an accident during the construction of the building caused the first hospital in town to be built. Later on it was devastated by fires and after the silver crush, when the prosperity of the town came to an end, it was used as a playground by children and used as a cinema. It has been totally refurbished and opened its doors again in 1984.Today the Wheeler Opera House shows perfotmances of superstars in the world of pop and pop, jazz, professional opera and ballet, theatre plays and broadway musical, is home to film festivals and a place where private and community events can happen.
