We are being told that the hotel sets the "standard for modern hotels" in town. It offers "creative design and meticulous attention to detail" and is an antidote to the "Victorian sweetness" that can usually be found here, which works well as a "palate cleanser". According to the writer this "wonderful old Beaux Arts building" is popular with "Record-company and film execs". Still reminders of "its locale" can be found in the "modern space" when you enter the "graceful lobby" with its "classical pilasters".

The interior of the hotel is described as "the embodiment of minimalist chic". The "simple" rooms are decorated in "muted monochromatic" shades and "clever decorating touches" that relate to "its New Orleans setting". The writer states that the fixtures in the bathroom are "up-to-the-minute" but thinks that they "come off as a bit industrial". She writes that the hotel is committed to "hip, neat, cool, and groovy" which also means that the corridors are "dark" and the room numbers are "hard-to-read" but that you will be compensated by "cushy touches.
Frommers have awarded their highest 3-star rating to the International House which means that they believe the hotel is exceptional.
