Check in was a breeze and they were extremely helpful and welcoming. Behind the check in desk there is a massive aquarium of tropical fish. It looked absolutely stunning. There is also a massive atrium with tropical plants and orchids which is very picturesque.

We were given our room key and headed off to the lifts to the rooms. Unfortunately you have to meander your way right through the casino towards the back of the hotel with your entire luggage in tow. All of the guest lifts are situated at the rear of the hotel and there are security guards at the lifts allowing only guests to use them which is quite good from a safety and security point of view.

I had booked the hotel for three nights in a tower deluxe room and despite booking a room with a view over the Volcano they gave us a room overlooking the pool complex. My heart sank when we walked into the room. The view was ok but there was a strange smell to the room. One quick fone call to the front desk and that got us moved to the correct room. The furnishings and finish of the room were a depressing drab brown colour scheme although I believe they have now revamped the decor thank god.

The bathroom was adequate although small with a nice shower and a bath. One evening I decided to have an early relaxing evening and a bit of pampering as I had had a long day out walking and staying up to the wee small hours. I poured myself a nice stiff drink ran the bath and put in some bubble bath. I took a nice long swig of my drink and closed my eyes. I turned on the spa and drifted off into a nice snooze only to be woken by bubbles galore reaching the tip of my nose and covering the whole of the bathroom floor. I spent the next two hours trying to clear up the mess. So much for a nice relaxing bath! I didn’t realise that the bath salts should have been used instead. What a nut. So that put paid to that relaxing evening.


At the rear of the hotel there are massive pools for swimming and a mini type zoo called Siegfried & Roy's secret garden. There is a dolphin conservation project and marine study centre and you can pay to spend the day with the dolphins. What was nice was that they look after the dolphins very well and they were quite entertaining and you can pay to be a trainer for the day. There are also various wild cats in the secret garden. All looked well cared for and in a subtropical park setting.

Just after the reception area you walk through a massive atrium which has exotic flowers and fauna including beautiful birds of paradise and orchids. There are waterfall cascades to add to the atmosphere.

The volcano show draws people to watch it explode at set times during the late afternoon and all evening. It was completely revamped last year and it is an even more spectacular show than the original one. It lasts for approximately five minutes. First the lights go out then smoke mist rises up coloured red which is lit by lights. Then the mist gets higher and then the volcano erupts spewing lava into the air.( It is water but orange and red lights give it the appearance of molten lava). The display gives the impression that the walls of the volcano begin to split and molten lava oozes down into the surrounding water. There are explosions of hundreds of gas fuelled fire balls which culminate in massive explosions and then finally it dies away. IT is a fantastic show and free to watch.


There are also various shows in the theatre at the casino although since the death of Danny Gann the resident comedian there is a mixture and variety of entertainment.


The casino itself is compact with low ceilings which made it feel very claustrophobic. There is also a large table area.

There are plenty of eateries and restaurants ranging from low cost coffee shops and ice cream parlours to high cost good standard restaurants. There is also a buffet which is quite good value and one of the better strip buffets although the queues can be quite long. There is a wide choice of ethnic foods including Japanese, Chinese, American, Italian and Brazilian restaurants.

There is also a spa and they sell various packages to encourage you to stay with them and have various massage therapies.



Overall it is a nice hotel but I personally would never stay here again even the thought of it makes me cringe. To be honest it is perfectly ok but personally for me I just did not like it at all.
