The author informs us that  the building "was gutted and lavishly refurbished in the mid-1990s". The décor in the public spaces is "harmonious maroon-and-mahogany".  Rooms are either "purely modern" or have a "19th-century period look".  A tram stop "at the front door" makes a trip to the city centre "quick and easy".

The rooms are "richly" designed with a "huge" bed, a "spacious marble" bathroom and "every amenity". The restaurant is said to be "excellent".
