A Bold Renovation

Otley reports that the "famous" Richemond has undergone a €28mn "overhaul" which has been a "bold renovation" of this historic hotel. Almost everything of the original hotel has gone - only "a few key members of staff" remain. The decor is "more Dubai than Switzerland" to appeal to the small but super-wealthy "Russian and Arab clientele" that like the hotel. The lobby decor of "marble floor" and "gold-flecked pillars" help the hotel to "stand out from its competition".

All rooms are "contemporary" in style and have plenty of technology from iPod docking stations and "plasma sceens in the bathroom" to heated towel rails. Bathrooms are "full marble" and have both baths and showers.

The bar is "more of an evening place" than a location for afternoon tea. It has "good wine and cocktail" lists and is "clearly popular". The restaurant offers "fine-dining Italian".

For business travellers there is "no business centre" but "excellent" meeting facilities with "natural daylight" and "state-of-the-art technology".
The hotel has "Switzerland's first dedicated Shiseido spa" where there are 5 treatment rooms.

Otley awards "full marks" to the Rocco Forte Collection for "daring to be different" and creating a hotel that's a "complete surprise". The service was "good" when he visited despite that being only the first week of opening.
