Ideal Hong Kong Location

When trying to decide on a hotel for our trip to Hong Kong we did a lot of research and opted for the Metro Park Hotel in Causeway bay rather than its sister hotel in Kowloon. This was mainly due to its location in a quieter part of town and its superb transport links. The hotel is roughly three quarters of an hour from the airport and the bus to the airport stops at the door of the hotel, as our transport was included we did not use that option. It is well located too with the MTR station being just along the road, the trams passing the end of the road and the bus to Stanley also just a short walk away. The hotel also runs free transport to Causeway Bay shopping area and also Wan Chai for the conference centre and star ferry.
The hotel has car parking on the ground floor and you enter the reception on the first floor by lift or escalator. The reception is always well manned with at least three people on at any one time so check in was very quick. When booking our holiday we asked for a harbour view room and were told none were available however on check in I chanced it and asked if this was possible. Certainly we have already allocated you one came the reply much to our delight so remember it pays to ask. We soon had the key card to room 1016 in our hand.

The Room
The room was not large but perfectly adequate, the double bed had a large blue headboard ,lovely white linen with extra cushions and pillows and a beige valance which matched the curtains and toned in with the blue carpet beautifully. The view from the window which was the size of half the wall was fantastic, across Victoria Park to the harbour.
The room had a TV with 30 channels, a mini bar plus tea and coffee making facilities. Under the window ran a light wood unit with a portion that lifted up which had a vanity mirror and housed the hairdryer in its own black velvet bag , a comfy beige chair was in front of the mirror. A drawer on this unit had the internet connection cable, books about room service, writing paper and envelopes, sewing kit, fax transmission sheets and a guide book but this was in Chinese.
There were four 3pin plug point, broadband internet connection point plus and angle poise light. There were two bedside shelves which had the telephone notepad and light control on it. The wardrobe had hanging space as well as a three drawer chest and housed the safety deposit box with a handy light that came on when you opened the door. On the door was a floor to ceiling mirror.
The room was air-conditioned and was fitted with smoke detectors and had a luggage rack and bin.

The Bathroom
The bathroom was not big and had a toilet and wash hand basin set out in marble and a door leading into a wet room. There were an abundance of white fluffy towels which were changed daily and the biggest lot of complimentary extras I have seen. These included Shower gel, Moisturiser, Shampoo, Toothbrush, Comb, Shower cap, Soap, Sanitary bags, Razors, Facial wipes, Cotton buds and Tissues.
Also in the bathroom was glasses ,soap dish and two face clothes as well as a waste paper bin. It had a washing line in the shower which was handy for drying the bathing costumes. There was also a telephone and shaver sockets.

The Pool and Health Club
These were situated on the roof and even if just going for a look you had to changed out of outdoor shoes into slippers they provided. When out side the view was spectacular right across Victoria Park and the famous harbour where you could watch the Star ferry on its crossing to Kowloon. The pool was not large but very refreshing after a day shopping and at one end was the Jacuzzi. Around the pool were sun beds and towels were provided at no time were the beds all taken and we were there at some point every day for our swim and it was never busy. The health club had lots of exercise bikes and machines which I am afraid we did not use.

Café du Parc
The restaurant was located on the second floor and served a buffet or a la carte menu. We had breakfast here every day and it was very good serving hot and cold buffet to cater for European and eastern tastes, and as much tea or coffee as you could drink. We did not eat here that often but did sample both the buffet and a la carte on different occasions and I was happy with the buffet and disappointed with my choice from the a la carte. The dining room was spotless and the staff all friendly and welcoming.

Vics Bar
This was located on the first floor and we only visited it once and found the happy hour lasted from 4pm until 9pm when drinks seemed to be buy one get one free. Live music was on while we were there.

The Visitors Centre
This is located on the first floor and free broadband internet is available on the two computers in it. The staff again are all very helpful with instructions for trips and these can be booked there if required. They will also help with any other inquiries like bus times etc when they phone for up to date times. I also heard a gentleman getting a visa arranged so they do a good job.

I think that just about covers everything as it was our 30th wedding anniversary they delivered a cake to our room with their compliments so be sure to say if you are celebrating anything during your visit.
We had a wonderful trip and this hotel did not disappoint I give it 10 out of 10.

The author describes the Metropark Hotel in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong as a "contemporary hotel with Euro-boutique flair " which offers a "prime location and unobstructed views" but for a "lower cost than many other hotels". The author continues by saying that most bedrooms "have extensive views of Victoria Park next door or the harbor" whilst all have "high-speed Internet access".
Leading off from the "tiny lobby " is "Vic's, a tapas bar" while the restaurant "Café du Parc has French and Japanese fusion food". This is described as "trendy". There are regular "Free shuttle buses" that go to and from "the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre" and to the centre of "Causeway Bay".

The author describes this hotel "not as centrally located " as other hotels in "Causeway Bay" however says it has "some compelling advantages " which put it "near the top of the list ". She continues that the "MTR and tram lines are just outside the door" plus the hotels runs a "free shuttle bus to the shopping district " She describes the rooms and lobby as "cheerier and more colorful than most hotels" featuring "contemporary and fun designs ". Some rooms have superb views over "Victoria Park to the harbor " less expensive rooms are not so lucky. This hotel has a pool on the roof which she says are"complete with great views " plus "a Hong Kong first -- underwater music". She continues other facilities this hotel has is " free broadband Internet service" which is great for travellers. She describes the bathrooms as "small" with "limited counter space" however "in-room vanities " provides extra storage.
Frommers gives this hotel two stars and highly recommends it.
