The Grotto Beach in Hermanus stretches for kilometres, all the way to KIeinrivier lagoon and De Plaat, a popular fishing spot, and is ideal for long walks along the shore.
Grotto Beach offers fine golden sand and has received a Blue Flag in 2002.
The beach offers parking facilities, is serviced by a restaurant and shops, toilets are available and it is allowed to bring pets.
Further amenities include a playground for little visitors and there are several barbecue (braai) facilities and picnic spots.
Please note that the beach is only supervised by a life guard during the main season and that swimmers need to be cautious of the strong currents and high tides.
Grotto Beach is not suitable for surfing.
Situated at Century City, a complex offering various tourist activities, Ratanga Junction is a full-scale theme park with numerous rides, bird and snake shows and live entertainment.
It is open daily from 10h00 to 17h00 (18h00 Saturdays) during the mid-November to mid-January peak season and closed during winter. A selection of places to eat and drink is available, as are venues for private functions.
Public transport to and from the Cape Town CBD is available, as are minibuses from nearby train stations. Road access from the airport and Northern suburbs is per the N7 highway (Bosmansdam Road turnoff ) and the N1 from Cape Town (exit 10, Sable Road offramp).
Described as the largest shopping and entertainment centre on the African continent, Canal Walk consists of so-called "Cape Venetian architecture" buildings which house more than 400 shops, approximately 40 food and beverage venues and its own television station at the promotions court. Each of the many entrances offer designated parking areas for disabled patrons.
Exhibitions and expo's are often held at Canal Walk, live events are staged regulary and there is a visitors centre to assist tourists, foreign exchange bureaux and banks, cinemas, games arcade, interactive science centre and much more. Hermanus Whale Festival
Each year from July to September thousands of southern right whales are heading for the south coast of South Africa to pair in the ocean bays and to calve there.
The annual Hermanus Whale Watching Festival celebrates these happenings with a lot of events in the city of Hermanus.
