Kumarcılar Hanı

Kumarcılar Hanı

The Kumarcilar Hani, which translates as Gambler's Inn, is located in the Old Town of Nicosia, not far from the Büyük Han. Having housed originally 56 rooms it is a much smaller structure than the Büyük Han but still represents a traditional 17th century inn and is regarded as a fine example of the Ottoman architecture of this era. Inside the building an ornamented gate that dates back to the time before the Ottoman rule can be seen which indicates that the inn might be standing on the site of a much older structure. Most recently the inn has been used as an office for a government department but all alteration made to the building during this time have been removed and it is ready now to be restored. The Kumarcilar Hani is closed for visitors at the moment and will reopen as a centre for traditional artwork and crafts after its restoration.
