Northumberland Cheese Company
This 19th century granary has been converted into a cheese-making dairy as well as a coffee and cheese shop. Visitors can walk along the designated paths and watch the cheese-making process through large observation windows. All the cheeses can be tasted before a purchase is made, and both ranges of cheeses, Connoiseurs' Choice and Northumberland Premium are made from fully tracable herds. The cheese has been made for 21 years and some of the cheeses are multiple winners in the World and British Cheeses awards. As well as a range of cheeses, visitors can also buy different home made foods including flans, baked tarts and scones. Opening hours: Monday- Sunday 10am-5pm
Milkhope Centre and Blagdon Farm Shop
The Blagdon Estate in South East Northumberland contains a number of working farms. A group of Northumbrian stone farm buildings have been restored and refurbished as the Milkhope Centre. Within the grounds are a number of specialist retailers (cane work, ladies fashions), galleries, a stone mason and the Blagdon Farm shop. The centre also has its cafe which serves and sells its own produce and home baking. Admission and parking free. Opening hours: 10am - 5pm (Tues - Sat) 11am - 4pm (Sunday) Closed Mondays
Aydon Castle stands in a wooded landscape and overlooks the Cor Burn. It was built as an undefended manor house in the 13th Century, during a rare time of border peace. the house was later fortified in times of unrest and was then used as a farmhouse until 1966. It is open daily (except Monday and Tuesday) from March to September from 10am until 5pm. The admission charges are: Adults - £3.50 (5.25 Euros) Children - £1.80 (2.75 Euros)
