    Zetland Lifeboat

    The Zetland Lifeboat is the oldest lifeboat in existence and was built in 1802 and whilst in service it saved more than 500 lives. The museum tells the history of the Zetland and the RNLI and how the lives of fisherman were saved from the sea.Other exhibits include a fisherman's cottage and art gallery. A shop provides souvenirs of your visit to the museum. Entrance is free, donations are accepted. It is open from: May 1st - September 30th Monday - Friday 11am - 4pm, Saturday - Sunday 12pm - 4pm

    This annual event which is organised by the Cumberland Agricultural Society features a livestock show with many classes of horses (including clydesdales, hunters and ponies), cattle, sheep and goats. Other shows include dogs, rabbits, poultry and tractors. The main ring stages a range of exhibitions inlcuding the Royal Artillery Motorcycle Display Team, craft demonstrations and cookery. There are competitions for schools and a range of activities (quad biking, paintball, face painting) for all ages.     Rheged Centre

    The Rheged Centre ("The Village In The Hill") is named after the ancient Celtic Kingdom of Rheged. It was constructed from a disused limestone quarry and is covered over with the largest grass roof in Europe. Inside are a number of activities and attractions to suit every age. "Giant Movies" is the home of a large format cinema which rotates seven feature films on such diverse subjects as "Vikings: Journey to New Worlds" and "Africa: The Serengeti". "Discover" is a permanent exhibition and information centre covering the history of the region from the Ice Age to the present. It also houses the National Mountaineering Exhibition. The Centre hosts live music, fairs and childrens workshops. There is a play centre, a cafe and a shop which sells local produce, beers and crafts.
