Katerina Xekalou set the Avli restaurant in a 15th century Venetian villa with its courtyard garden in the old town of Rythmnon over 18 years ago. Petros the chef creates new dishes as well as the more traditional Cretan dishes, each made with the produce from around the island of Crete. The menu includes fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. Dining takes place in the courtyard garden with its potted plants or inside the restaurant's arched doorways and stone walls. The bar serves wine from all over the world but specialises in Greek and Cretan wine, other alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks are available. The restaurant caters for special occasions for up to 300 people including wedding receptions and birthdays.
