Dvoretsa

Dvoretsa

Dvoreca is the name of the Palace, which is located near the town of Balchik. It is situated on the Black Sea coast, 40 km from Varna and 2km from Balchik. Dvoreca was built during the period when the southern part of the region of Dobrudja was Romanian territory, in the period 1920-1940. The Palace was built by Italian architects and its name Dvoreca means "Quiet Nest". It was inspired by the English Queen Mary and she is buried in the chapel in the garden. The overall vision of the palace is a combination of different architectural styles and symbols - Christian, Roman, Thracian and Oriental. The architecture is combined with exotic vegetation. The complex consists of a large park with several buildings that are located at different places, bridges, steep trails, waterfalls, rose garden, chapel and botanical garden. The garden is called Universitetska Botanicheska Gradina (University Botanical Garden). It was established in 1955 on an area of 65 acres. It is the second largest collection of cacti in Europe. Dvoreca is open every day of week from 8PM to 10PM during the summer and from 8.30AM to 5.30PM in winter.
