[Newfloridian, 09/09/2006] Marathon is small tropical city at the mid point chain of islands that make up the Florida Keys. Historically it has been linked to fishing and seafaring but was brought to prominence in the early 1900s with the building of the railroad from Miami to Key West by Henry Flagler. At its southern end the old and new Seven Mile Bridges stretch out into the ocean.

Sombrero Reef, part of North America's only living coral barrier reef, lies offshore and is protected by the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. There are pages devoted to shopping, dining and other land based activities including walking trails and museums. Marathon is also home to the Dolphin Research Centre and the Turtle Hospital.
