UNESCO Group of Monuments at Pattadakal

The UNESCO World Heritage Committee listed the Monuments at Pattadakal in 1987 There are nine Hindu temples and a Jain sanctuary dating from the 7th and 8th centuries. Of these the Temple of Virupaksha was singled out for particular attention and it is noted that this temple was commissioned by Queen Lokamahadevi to commemorate the victory of Vikramaditya II over kings from the South of India. The oldest temple is the Sangamesvara circa A.D. 697. Used for royal coronations and noted for their architectural features, the Monuments at Pattadakal feature varied ceiling panels, reliefs and inscriptions. Pattadakal also hosts the Chalukya Utsava, a three-day dance festival which is held in January/February. The temples are open from dawn to dusk and an entry fee of approximately $5.00 (US) is charged for visitors aged 15 and older. • Zenana enclosure

    Zenana enclosure

Heute locken dessen Ruinen viele Touristen an.
