Detailed review by ProfMagellan
This is a small, intimate boutique hotel which enjoys a super location just two minutes from the Duomo and the Galleria. The staff are really fantastic. The room was functional if a little lacking in character but plenty of space, clean and comfortable. In a city full of overpriced hotels, the UNA Maison offers excellent value for money. Ideal for young professionals as well as for visitors on city breaks as it is so close to most of Milan's shops and attractions.

The Room was fine. For a city centre hotel is was more than adequate especially to the famous shoe boxes so often offered by central hotels in Paris and New York. Although on a main street
(which had trams) the sound insulation was excellent with modern double glazing. I was told that the hotel was only two years old which explained why the fittings were modern and functional. Plenty of good lights. Flat screen TV with BBC World and CNN. The bathroom was immense and very well equipped (rain shower, nice toiletries, reasonable towels). But as it was the coldest week in Italy in 27 years - with temperatures below -12 degrees C - it proved impossible to keep warm with only a towel rail exuding heat. What I liked most were the good quality feather pillows and the profusion of electrical sockets (for iPad, mac, kindle, i-phone etc). What I liked least was the lack of cupboard space and the horrible clothes hangars (of the "do not steal" variety which you have to hook into a narrow mounting), the sort you would expect in a one star hotel not a four star. I found the lighting control box fussy and unnecessary
and we had problems in getting it to work.

The Front Desk (Sylvia, Francesco, Carlo) were superstars. I loved being offered a drink on arrival. They made excellent restaurant recommendations including l'Assassino which is under new management and was an outstanding eatery. They were friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
This is an old building that has been refurbished. Not much in the way of common rooms. A small seating area in the lobby (I would had preferred CNN to MTV on the large TV set). Lift was very fast (do not take speedy lifts for granted in European hotels). Quite discreet so not much evidence of other guests but the ones we did see seemed well behaved and reasonably turned out. Mercifully no children at all.
Wi Fi worked well but it was eye-wateringly expensive (18 euros for 4 hours) and required rather a fussy password. When will wi-fi be treated along with hot water and electricity as something which comes automatically?
In good condition but as white was the colour of choice a few scuff marks apparent. It will need constant painting to keep it fresh.

We had a breakfast which was only served in the room. It was fine though at 15 euros each not a bargain. The orange juice really was freshly squeezed which was a delight.

A brisk eight minute walk takes you to most of Milan's best shops. Milan offers some of the best shopping in the world and unlike NY, London and Paris, they are all very close together which helps if you do not have a lot of time. The Duomo and the Galleria, possibly Milan's two most famous buildings, are just two minutes away.
