Badija

Badija

Badija is a small island of approximately 1 square km which is located in close vicinity to Korčula Island and a 30-minute boat ride away from Korčula Town. It offers pebble beaches on one side of the island and stone beaches on the other. Some of the beaches are naturist and both tourists and locals visit the island to swim, fish, hike or have picnics, with pine trees offering shade and comfort on hot summer's days. Badija is also home to a Franciscan Monastery which was built in the 14th century.

Kuća Marka Pola

Kuća Marka Pola

The House of Marco Polo is the house which Korčula inhabitants believe to be the house where Marco Polo, the world famous traveller and explorer, was born. At the present, just part of the house is opened for visitors. Korčula's Town Authorities have bought the house recently and they are undertaking reconstruction work in order to expand the Museum of Marco Polo. Despite its rather featureless interior, the tower of the house (loggia) gives a beautiful panoramic view of Korčula.

Gradski Muzej Korčula

The Korčula Town Museum opened in 1957 and is housed in the Renaissance-style, early 16th-century Gabrielis Palace opposite the Cathedral of St Marco on the main square Piaceta (Trg Sv. Marka). The permanent exhibition includes several displays, divided by theme, on different floors of the building. On the ground floor there are archaeological displays with prehistoric, Hellenic and medieval artefacts. Other floors house exhibitions of shipbuilding and masonry workshops, as well as a collection of art and cultural heritage from the 13th-20th century. A medieval kitchen is represented in the attic.
