The Museum of Modern Art was founded in 1929 by Abby Aldrich Rockefeller (wife of John D. Rockefeller Jr) and two of her friends. Since 1939 it is situated in its current location, designed by architects P. Goodwin and E. D. Stone, and today is regarded the most important and influential museum of modern art in the world. The museums' collections include more than 150,000 individual pieces of art, including masterpieces by Andy Warhol, Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Claude Monet and many others, more than 20.000 films and a library with over 300,000 books.
