Museum of Modern Art - MoMA

Museum of Modern Art - MoMA

The MoMA, as the Museum of Modern Art is also called, is located in midtown Manhattan, just steps from the underground station at 5th Avenue/53. Street. It is home to collections of works of art from the categories architecture, painting, design, film, photography, printing, sculpture, illustration and multi media. The Museum of Modern Art was founded in 1929 by Abby Aldrich Rockefeller (wife of John D. Rockefeller Jr) and two of her friends. From its humble beginnings, when it occupied just six rooms on the 12th floor of the Heckscher Building, it fast developed and expanded. Since 1939 it is situated in its current location, designed by architects P. Goodwin and E. D. Stone, and today is regarded the most important and influential museum of modern art in the world. The museums' collections include more than 150,000 individual pieces of art, including masterpieces by Andy Warhol, Vincent van Gogh, Piet Mondrian, Claude Monet and many others, more than 20.000 films and a library with over 300,000 books. The museum often holds temporary exhibitions, special events, workshops and family events. For information about opening hours and admission fees please visit the website.
