I was very excited when I realized we will go to the Statue of Liberty. I have seen it on TV and had been excited ever since I realized I was going to the States. I was not sure that we will be able to visit it, but I was expecting a miracle.
We got our travel guide information, and the meeting point was well known. I woul say that you better do a tour, than go by yourself. Also, plan well in advance, as the ferry is crowded. When you go, be sure not to have too much metal on yourself, as it will take some time to remove it for the security check.
After 9/11, there are certain restrictions as to where you can visit and what you can see. What we did, and I think it is better, is only wonder around the island, and not climb on top. You can still get a wonderful view of the Manhattan. The best views of the statue you can get from the ferry. Be prepared to take a lot of pictures and film wonderful movies. You better do your visit during a sunny summer day, as it will not be pleasant to get wet from the rain and ruin your holiday.
