The epitome of a Parisian palais hotel situated on the same street as the great fashion designers. Gorgeous courtyard (restaurant) beautiful rooms in the classical and Art Deco styles. This is where the glitterati stay in Paris. The hotel is also home to Alain Ducasse’s three-star restaurant and a very trendy bar. Click here for information on Marco Polo travel guides

Le batobus

Le batobus

The batobus company has been offering an alternative way of travelling in the centre of Paris since 2002. Unlike other boat tours on the Seine, travellers can hop on and off this river-boat shuttle at eight different stops on the left and right banks of the river: the Eiffel Tower, the Orsay museum, Saint Germain des Prés, Notre-Dame, Jardin des Plantes, the Louvre and Hôtel de Ville. A recorded commentary points out the main sights along the route. A single ticket lets passenger use the boats as many times as they want for a day, 2 days or 5 days, with concessions available for the under 16 and certain card holders. Shuttles run every 25 to 30 minutes, every 15 minutes during the tourist season. A combined ticket allowing passengers to use the Open Tour buses extends the number of available stops to 58. A detailed timetable and tariff is available on the company's website and at each of the batobus' stops.

Champs Elysées

Champs Elysées

Champs-Elysées is known in France as the most beautiful avenue in the world and is probably the worlds best known street. It is the most expensive strip of real estate in Europe. The Avenue runs from the Place de la Concorde to the east, where stands the Obelisk of Luxor, two kilometres westwards to the Place Charles de Gaulle, where the famous Arc de Triomphe stands. Some outstanding buildings can be seen down the avenue, such as the Théâtre Marigny or the Grand Palais. It was Marie de Medici in 1616 who first joined the market gardens to Palais des Tuileries, planting trees all along. By 1700, the Champs-Elysées was already a fashionable avenue and in 1828 it became city property. The latest adjustment made was the widening of the side walks in 1994. The Avenue has been the theatre of a number of military parades, including the German troops who in 1940 celebrated the Fall of France, and in 1944, a march of Free French and American forces after the liberation of the city. Since 1860 merchants along the avenue have thrived from the streets reputation. It is still today one of the most visited streets in Europe with its cinemas, cafés and luxury speciality shops.
