A fantastic hotel with extremely helpful staff and where nothing was ever too much trouble. The room was spotless and very comfortable. The hotel is in a great location right by the Metro and Bus Stops, plus there was no noise at all during the day or night. Highly recommended !!

Grande Galerie de l'Evolution

Grande Galerie de l'Evolution

The Grande Galerie de l’Evolution at the Musée d’Histoire Naturelle started out as the Galerie de Zoologie in 1889, coincidentally the same year the Eiffel Tower was inaugurated. It's in 1994 that it was reincarnated in its present form. Now, the public gets to see the collections under the guiding thread of evolution. With 3000 specimens exhibited in the nave alone, and 7000 in the whole museum, visitors can discover land and sea creatures, including rare, endangered and extinct species. They are also invited to reflect on the future of the planet and the responsibilities of man in its survival. As well as the permanent collection, temporary exhibitions are also organised, and activities for families and children often take place during school holidays. The museum is open every day from 10 am to 6 pm except on Tuesdays and on the first of May. A boutique and a cafeteria can be found in the museum, and disabled visitors can access the whole building. More information, tariffs and concessions are available on the museum's site.

Panthéon

Panthéon

The Pantheon was built between 1764-1790 by the architect Soufflot, for King Louis XV. Inspired by the Agrippa in Rome, Soufflot aimed to compete with Saint Peters in Rome and Saint Pauls in London. The site previously held a basilica dedicated to Saint Genviève dated 507 and founded by King Clovis. In 1744 King Louis XV vowed that he would replace the ruins with a worthy edifice for Saint Genevieve, if he recovered from his illness, which he did. The crypt shelters historical figures of France such as Victor Hugo, Emile Zola, Jean Moulin, Voltaire or Jean Jaurès. Situated in the Quartier Latin of Paris, the Pantheon overlooks Paris from the top of the Montagne Sainte Geneviève. It is considered to be an important architectural achievement for its time. It stands 83 metres high, 110 metres long and 89 metres wide. The construction was finally finished by Soufflot’s pupil, Jean Baptiste Rondelet in 1789. It is open to the public daily from 10am to 6pm and costs 7€ for adults, 4€ for the 18 - 25, free for those 17 and under.
