Built by the Knights of Rhodes in the 14th century on the site of a 7th century fortress, much of the original Palace was destroyed by an explosion in 1856. It has served as a prison during the Ottoman era and was later converted to a residence for Mussolini. Restored in the late 1930's, it became a museum which features mosaics and sculptures from the Hellenistic period as well as furniture from the 15th century onwards. Various events and exhibitions are held at the Palace. Details of tariffs and opening hours are available at the website.
