[06/11/2007] On arrival, the reviewer was taken aback to receive a "distinctly cool" welcome from the aptly named owner Mr Frost. Fortunately, however, the "charm curve rose steeply" during the stay and he comments on the smiling reception at dinner and the owners' "thoughtfulness" in providing extras such as a library of DVDs and a sauna. Further guest facilities are planned. Style-wise the hotel is notable. It is a listed Georgian house, and each room is "individually decorated with contemporary art". The décor is "comforting" with purples, ivory, browns and cherry predominating. However, the author noted "little let-downs" such as too much MDF and scuffing. The room was "dominated" by a king-size bed and the shower was only a small wetroom. Courses during dinner were variously described as "delicious", "subtle" and "earthy and sharp", accompanied by a "fine" Meursault. Breakfast was "full Welsh". Overall he thought it "terrific value" but the owners need to be "more engaging".
