    Hotel Les Vanilliers Saint-Joseph
    Built by Lord Armstrong, Cragside was the first house to be lit by hydro electricity. Situated on a rocky crag, the house was built as a weekend retreat for Lord Armstrong who was himself a Victorian inventor. The house and gardens display some of Armstrong's inventions and ideas, and examples such as the lakes which provided his own source of water power are still there today. The estate covers over 1,700 acres, and there are 40 miles of footpaths to follow. Around the house is one of Europe's largest hand made rock gardens and visitors are able to access all the woodland trails. There is also an adventure playground, a labyrinth and Trim Trail for all visitors. the cafe serves food made in the kitchen of the house. Opening hours: April- September: House -Tuesday to Sunday 1pm-5.30pm Gardens/Estate -Tuesday to Sunday 10.30am-7pm Shop and restaurant -Tuesday to Sunday 10.30am-5.30pm Prices are £10.50 for adults and £5 for children for the house and gardens and for visiting only the gardens, you pay £7 for adults and £3 for children.
