Hotel St Michael's Manor St Albansmore
St Michael's Manor has been owned by the Newling Ward family since 1965. This four star hotel has, in its time, been run by grandfather, father and son and the current General Manager, Richard Marrett, has been with the hotel since 2010. Located in the historic district of St. Albans, with its 70 listed buildings, old inns and mills, the hotel is situated within seven acres of manicured gardens and backs on to the river Ver and Verulamium Park. The hotel is only a ten minute walk away from the magnificent Abbey. Built in 1530, but laid on medieval foundations, the hotel site can be traced back to the 11th century. Parts of the original flooring are still in evidence in the hotel's cellars today. The house was built by John Gape, a well-respected tanner and continued to be owned by his descendants up until the 1960's, when it was purchased by the Newling Wards. Over the last four decades they have nurtured and restored the house and gardens to their present glory and continue to take pride in all its aspects. Close to the centre of the ancient Roman city of St Albans, and near the famous cathedral, this magnificent townhouse hotel is set in five acres of beautiful English country gardens, overlooking a lake, and includes a two rosette, 140 seat restaurant offering A La Carte, brasserie-style menu, bar snacks and afternoon teas.
