Catrigg Force is a waterfall above Stainforth near Settle. It is said to have been a favourite with the composer Edward Elgar who visited this waterfall often whilst staying with his friends in Settle.
The waterfall is formed by the Cowside Beck forcing its way through a narrow gap. The water falls in steps, with the longest about 20 feet. The walk up to Catrigg Force is uphill and follows an ancient walled goat lane. The fall itself is hidden in a copse and is audible from a distance.
