Hyde Park Village

Hyde Park Village

The historic district of Old Hyde Park lies at the northern end of the peninsula which forms South Tampa. It is close to Tampa's downtown and easily accessible from the I275 interstate and the Crosstown Expressway. Much of its housing stock consists of Victorian and early twentieth century mansions and town houses. The Village (on the junction of Swann and Snow Avenues) has a collection of about 60 shops, boutiques and restaurants of eclectic design and taste. There is also a seven screen cinema. The village offers monthly outdoor concerts, exhibitions and a bi-annual art festival. Regular shopping hours: 10am - 7pm (Monday - Saturday) 12pm - 5pm (Sunday) Some stores and restaurants have extended hours. There are three covered car parks in the vicinity. The In Town Trolley also provides a service from Downtown - 50 cents

St Pete Times Forum

Originally called the Tampa Bay Ice Palace when it was first opened in 1996, it was renamed after the local newspaper in 1999. It is a large steel and glass structure in the heart of downtown Tampa, situated between the Channelside District and the Convention Centre. It is also home to Tampa Bay Lightning, the NHL ice hockey team. With a capacity of over 20,000 the St Pete Times Forum hosts over 100 concerts, ice shows, circus and other events throughout the year. The Forum has three restaurants (Medallions, Icons and Shots - which serve a range of full and light menus) and the Absoluts Experience Lounge (a full service bar). Fast food concession stands operate during events. There is a disabled person's drop-off point on Channelside Drive as well as multi-storey and lot parking in the vicinity. Florida Aquarium

The three storey-high glass domed Florida Aquarium was opened in March 1995 and has become a landmark on the edge of the Channelside district of downtown Tampa . Its mission statement declares the organisation to be dedicated to public entertainment, education and conservation. The facility is home to over ten thousand aquatic plants and animals, birds and fish from over thirteen hundred species from Florida and all over the world. The aquarium exhibits range over two floors and can be seen on a self paced walking tour through a variety of diverse habitats such as wetlands, bays and beaches and coral reefs. There is a large shark tank and special displays of rare creatures such as seahorses and spiders. Children may also pet a ray. Descriptive cards are located throughout the building. The aquarium owns a catamaran which organises ecological trips around Tampa Bay. There is a large car park on site and the TECO trolley stops nearby.
