City Palace

City Palace

City Palace in Udaipur, built of granite and marble, stands above the Pichola Lake and is a major tourist attraction in Rajasthan. Built by Maharana Udai Singh in 1559 on the eastern bank of the lake, the City Palace is an ensemble of palaces built through time. From the City Palace terraces and balconies, views onto the lake and the famous Lake Palace Hotel in the middle of Pichola lake. The main entrance to the Palace is through "the Tripolia", built in 1725. This triple arched gate leads to a series of gardens, corridors and courtyards. Throughout these, paintings, antiques, inlay glass work, colourful enamel, decorative furniture and utensils can be seen. The Amar Vilas is the highest point with its hanging gardens and fountains with a unique view over the Lake Pichola.

Jagdish Temple

Jagdish Temple

Jagdish Temple was built by Maharana Jagat Singh in 1651, in the Hindu architectural science style of "Vastushstra". The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, preserver of the Universe. It is Udaipurs largest temple, and it is covered with sculptures of dancers, elephants, horsemen and musicians. The entrance consists of two huge stone elephants either side of a steep marble stair access. Once in the main shrine, you'll see a black stone sculpture of the four-armed image of Lord Vishnu. Around this main shrine are four smaller shrines and the 79 feet high spire above the pyramidal roof. The three storey temple has 50 pillars on each of the first two floors. Situated in the centre of the city, it is now known as the Jagdish-ji and is a major tourist attraction.

Sajjangarh Palace

Sajjangarh Palace
