About Bartolomeo

The Hotel Bartolomeo in Venice is situated close to the Rialto Bridge and 10 minutes walk from St Mark's Square. The nearest vaporetto (waterbus) stop is just 130 m away at Rialto Banca d'Italia and has services on the 1 and 2 waterbus lines. The Bartolomeo has 24 rooms with wooden ceilings and Venetian style flooring. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, hair dryer, television with satellite channels, telephone, air conditioning/heating and room safe. Breakfast is available as a buffet in the breakfast room each morning from 7 o'clock and a bar is also available. Wi-fi internet access is available and pets are allowed in the rooms if pre-requested. On request the hotel can arrange tickets for theatres and church concerts, restaurant bookings, gondola tours, baby setting and luggage storage. The reception is open 24 hours a day. In common with most hotels in the city, there is no parking available at the hotel.

Canale Grande

The Grand Canal is located in Venice, Italy. It is a canal that provides water-traffic passages in the city. There are both private water taxis and public water buses but most of the tourists prefer to go by gondola. The canal is 3800 metres long and between 30 to 90 metres wide. The average depth of the canal is five metres. The canal is in an S-shape form with one end of the canal leading to the lagoon and the other end leads to Saint Mark Basin. There are more than 170 buildings lined up by the canal banks. Most of the buildings are from the 13th to 18th century. The Rialto Bridge was the only bridge until the 19th century because most of the traffic was going along the canal and not across it. Nowadays there are two more bridges called the Ponte degli Scalzi and the Ponte dell’Accademia, a forth bridge is currently being built.

The Venice Simplon-Orient-Express is a classic train for travel throughout Europe. The train dates back to 1864 when George Mortimer Pullman inaugaurated this train in Britain. The first trains with sleeping carriages and meal service started in the 1870's. Still today the train offers a restaurant (meals included) and a bar. There are double compartments and cabin suites on offer. The homepage (available also in German and French) provides detailed information regarding the various journeys, routes and packages available. Destinations include Vienna, Prague, Paris, Istanbul and London as well as a "journey to Krakow, Warsaw and the High Tatras" in 2007.
