Lekhubu Island

Lekhubu Island, parfois appelée aussi Kubu Island, est un des attraits naturels de la région des pans du Makgadikgadi. Ils s'agit d'une île rocheuse longue seulement d'un kilomètre, peu élevée, posée au bord de l'immense cuvette saline (pan) de Sowa. Elle est couverte de nombreux et énormes baobabs. C'est la seule proéminence sur une immense étendue plane jusqu'à l'horizon. En période sèche, elle n'est plus vraiment une île avec l'évaporation des eaux du pan. Le sud de l'île abrite des vestiges de murs de pierres, héritage d'une civilisation contemporaine de la civilisation du Great Zimbabwe. L'île est, aussi, un lieu sacré pour les Sans (bushmen ou bochimans). Lekhubu est un endroit propice à la détente en toute sérénité et à la méditation, tout autant qu'à la marche. La face ouest de l'île est équipée d'aires de camping sommaires pour accueillir les visiteurs.
