The Metro is one block away. There are 152 rooms. All rooms have an in-room safe, refrigerator, microwave, kitchenette, coffeemaker, flat screen television, dvd player, premium movie channels, MP3/iPod docking station, hair dryer, and alarm clock. There are also blackout curtains, a queen pillow-topped bed and ergonomic chair. All windows in rooms open. All rooms and public areas are air conditioned. There is complimentary Wi-Fi. A continental breakfast is provided free of charge. Facilities include: laundry, fitness centre, 24 hour front desk, sundries shoppe, valet parking (extra charge), and an ice machine. Washington Monument

Washington Monument

The Washington Monument is an obelisk located at the centre of the National Mall in Washington D C between the U S Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial. It was built to commemorate George Washington who was Americas’ first president. The monument stands 555 feet 5⅛ inches (169.294 m) and is constructed from marble, granite and sandstone. Designed by Robert Mills construction began in 1848 but it was not completed until 1884 and it was not until 1888 that it was officially opened. Inside the monument a lift propels visitors to the summit where there are windows that offers views for up to 30 miles. The alternative is to climb the 897 stairs. The monument has a circle of flagpoles flying the American flag around it. Opening hours are 9:00 am. to 5:00 pm, with the last tour beginning before 4:45 pm. It is open every day except 4th July and Christmas day. The monument is free to enter but a ticket is required. This can be pre-booked for a small fee, if not queuing can start as early as 7am and tickets do run out.

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington DC is the custodian of the largest collection of historic air and spacecraft in the world. Located in the National Mall building on Independence Avenue at 6th Street it is accessible by bus, taxi, car and metro. There is no parking at the museum but metered parking is available nearby. There on display is the original Wright 1903 Flyer, the Spirit of St. Louis and the Apollo 11 command module. It is also possible to touch a piece of lunar rock. Facilities available include the Wright Place (food court with a range of fast food options) , a café, shop, toilets, Ride Simulators and Interactive Flight Simulators and an IMAX theatre. The museum is open from 10:00 am - 5:30 pm every day except Christmas day and admission is free ( a small charge for IMAX). The second part of the museum is located in Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Centre Chantilly, Virginia. Where again admission is free and parking is available.
