Klettersteig Mürren-Gimmelwald

Klettersteig Mürren-Gimmelwald

A via ferrata is an "iron way", a cross between mountain walking and climbing using ropes, ladders and zip wires. This via ferrata in Mürren is unusual in that it descends (into the Lauterbrunnen valley at Gimmelwald) rather than ascends. It covers 2.2km, drops 400m and takes about three hours to cover. The route is fully secured but is steep and can be dangerous. Special equipment - a climbing belt and climbing set - has been designed for via ferratas, and this can be hired. The route can be accessed free of charge and without a guide, but it is recommended that first timers should go with a guide. Use of the Tyrolienne bridge is only allowed when accompanied by a guide, although alternative rope bridges are available for this section. Maximum group size is eight, and costs 95 SF per person, including equipment hire. It is open from 15 June to the end of October.
