Positive Reviews

Spacious rooms with lots of character.

Unlike in many old hotels, the guest rooms at The George are generously sized, so it won't cramp your style. Many rooms have period features, such as wood-beamed ceilings or four-poster beds to make you feel like medieval royalty.

Very handy for visiting Stonehenge.

There's one main reason that people come to this part of the world, and that's to see Stonehenge. This world-famous site is located just 3 miles from the hotel, so it's very easy to reach, even if you're planning a sunrise visit.

Plenty of free parking available.

There's no worry about finding somewhere to park the car, as The George has plenty of free parking for guests onsite. It's easy to get to as well, located just off the A303 in the north of Amesbury.

Negative Reviews

The medieval quirks can be an annoyance.

While the historic features of the building provide much of The George's charm, they can also be a bit impractical. Some guests find the narrow stairs tricky, while others found their room was on a bit of a slope.

Noise from the bar and from outside is likely.

Since The George's pub is a popular local watering hole, and the army barracks are close by, things can get a little rowdy in the evenings. For the best chance of a quiet night, guests recommend requesting a room on the second floor.

The cooked breakfast is a bit of a let-down.

While the food gets mixed reviews, with some guests praising it highly, and others left underwhelmed, breakfast seems to be a particular disappointment for many, due to a lack of fresh, cooked-to-order ingredients.
