About Virginia Cottage

Less than 5 minutes’ walk from the banks of Lake Windermere, Virginia Cottage was once two 19th century cottages before being converted into the present-day bed and breakfast.

The rooms here vary from suites to economy rooms and each are traditionally styled, some with four poster beds. All rooms have a tea and coffee making facilities, a TV and DVD player, fridge and hairdryer.

There is a cosy lounge area and free Wi-Fi is available throughout the hotel. All guests are welcome to use the spa and fitness facilities at Old England Spa a few minutes’ walk away.

A traditional English breakfast is served each morning in the dining area, and directly opposite is a pub where guests can enjoy refreshments and evening meals.

You can walk to The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in around three minutes, and just two miles away is Windermere Golf Club.

Positive Reviews

Stay in a traditional 150-year-old cottage

Virginia Cottage was once two separate cottages, but now they have been combined to create a quaint bed and breakfast run by a friendly couple Experience accommodation with a homely feel in a country cottage dating back to the 1800s.

Homemade biscuits on arrival

When you arrive the first thing you will be offered before checking in is one of Shirley’s homemade biscuits During the day there is a table in the lounge with biscuits, donuts and other snacks for you to help yourself to.

You can use the Old England Spa facilities

Just down the road is the Old England Spa, where you can enjoy all the facilities, including sauna, pool and gym The best thing is that all of this is included in your room rate!

Negative Reviews

The old building has a lack of power sockets

If you like to take a lot of electrical gadgets with you on trips, then it is worth packing a multi-adapter when staying here There are simply not enough conveniently placed mains electric sockets in the rooms.

The shower and toilet rooms are too small

Some of the rooms here have an odd en suite bathroom setup, featuring one small room with just a toilet in it, and then another equally small room with a shower If the idea of a split bathroom does not take your fancy then perhaps look elsewhere.

Be careful on your way out

The main entrance and exit of Virginia Cottage opens directly out onto a main road, with no pavement or pedestrian path to step onto, so be wary of traffic when exiting the premises.
