Positive Reviews

You get the use of four different resorts

The Royal Islander is part of a chain of four resorts in the Caribbean. Many guests took advantage of their complimentary shuttle service which runs to each of the resorts. This enabled them to sample different restaurants, or use a different pool if one was crowded, among other advantages.

The rooms are beautifully appointed

Guests very much appreciated all the features in their suite. The full kitchen in some of the suites made it easy for guests to enjoy a home cooked meal or a midnight snack during their vacation. The furniture on the balcony made it the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning while gazing at the beautiful Nichupte Lagoon.

The location is excellent

Just a short distance from the resort are all kinds of shops, restaurants, and attractions. The most famous attraction is the nearby Mayan ruins at El Rey, and guests found lots of other exciting things to see, such as Interactive Aquarium, Playa Tortugas, and Dubai Palace Casino.

Negative Reviews

They could use some more front desk clerks

Quite a few reviews complained of having to wait an excessive amount of time to check in. Many expressed that more adequate staffing would resolve this problem, and that they could not understand why the management didn't do something about it.

It's getting a little tired

Some guests found that the furnishings and carpets were getting a bit worn, and hoped that they would be replaced soon.

They'll nickel and dime you

The Royal Islander charges a bit extra for a number of services at the resort. Guests have to pay to use the fitness center and weight their luggage among other things. Having already paid to dollar for their room, some guests found these extra charges obnoxious. They also did not appreciate some of the hotel's financial security polices, finding them to be disrespectful and untrusting.
