At 8 kilometres in length, Coniston Water (not "Lake" Coniston) is the third largest of the lakes in the Lake District National Park. It sits at the foot of the 800 metre high fell, the Old Man of Coniston. The area has been mined for copper since Roman times. The steam yacht Gondola sails from Coniston to Brantwood daily.
The lake is administered by the Lake District National Park Authority who also maintain the Coniston Boating Centre. From here boats, dinghy, kayak and canoes are available for hire. There are parking facilities and a cafe on site.
Boat hire:
10am - 4:30pm daily
