Positive Reviews

Great Hebridean breakfast

Among all the “X-Nationality/People” breakfasts, “Hebridean”, is perhaps not often encountered; certainly not much outside the Hebrides themselves. But guests were singing its praises, loving the quantities in the three courses, and particularly appreciating the breaded herring.

Exceptionally helpful hosts

Aside from being very welcoming and friendly, which guests said the hosts most definitely were, it was the information they provided on everything from the bus schedules to sights in the area that they most seemed to appreciate.

Bus to Edinburgh right outside the door

Though the guest house is some distance from Edinburgh city centre, many guests pointed out that a public bus departs to the city very regularly from a stop right in front of the building. Quite a few guests were actually more interested in visiting Edinburgh itself, rather than the surrounding area, and were not all that put-off by the longish bus ride.

Negative Reviews

Narrow time frame for breakfast

While guests overwhelmingly enjoyed the breakfast, some commented that it was served in one sitting, with the breakfast room a bit crowded. Some found the time inconvenient, and others were apprehensive about the “forced” social contact with other people at this time.

Memory foam mattresses

The memory foam mattresses used by the guest house are not to everyone's liking. It seems that people who are not familiar with them feel they are a bit “odd” initially. Since a guest is unlikely to stay for as long as it would take to become acclimatised, some experienced a bit of discomfort.

Eccentric host

While to most people the hosts personality and sense of humour was a major plus point, it seems he is a bit eccentric, and just like any eccentric person can rub some people the wrong way. Those who are easily offended may need to take note.
