About Hotel The Brothers Boutique

Set in a 1920s building originally premises for the Christian Brothers Order, Hotel The Brothers Boutique offers a unique and historically significant place to stay in the heart of Dunedin,

The 15 en-suite bedrooms come in different shapes and sizes, some with balconies overlooking the city and harbour. Some rooms are created from the original Brothers’ parlours and still maintain some of their character. The most charismatic, however, must be the Chapel Suite, which comes complete with stained-glass windows.

Hotel The Brothers Boutique offers free parking and Wi-Fi throughout. A boardroom allows for meetings and small gatherings for up to 16 attendees.

Breakfast is served in the Brothers’ original dining room. There are also many places to eat within Dunedin’s famous Octagon, about 15-minutes’ walk away, including the sophisticated bistro Two Chefs.

The Regent Theatre and Dunedin Art Gallery are also set within the Octagon, whilst the Olveston Historic House and Otago Museum are under a five-minute drive away.

Positive Reviews

Quirky and unique experience

Travellers looking to stay somewhere a bit out of the ordinary and sample a piece of Dunedin’s heritage at the same time should feel at home at this original accommodation. Guests appreciate this charming old building’s historical atmosphere and unique setting – especially those staying in the fabulous Chapel Suite with its beautiful stained-glass windows. The incredible views from some of the balconies of the city are also highly cherished.

Wonderful hospitality

The owners of the accommodation are praised by the guests for their incredible customer service and knowledge of the area. They warmly welcome travellers into their property and do all they can to ensure they make the most of their visit, including giving excellent restaurant recommendations and making reservations. Their friendly nature helps give a family feel to the place, with the conviviality fuelled further by the much appreciated complimentary drink that the owners share with their guests at 5 pm every evening.

Nice breakfast to start the day with

Guests are pleasantly surprised by the quality of the delicious complimentary breakfast here. It is found to be just what they need to kick start their day.

Negative Reviews

Steep climb to the hotel

Getting down to the city centre and the Octagon may be simple. However the return journey is found to be far less so. This is because the hotel is positioned up a very steep hill, which can be quite challenging to climb. Even if most guests can manage it, they warn that it may not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

Rooms can be a touch on the small side

Guests point out that because of the nature of this historical building, many of the rooms are quite compact with very modest-sized bathrooms. They can also appear a tad gloomy.
