Positive Reviews

A step up from most city-based hostels

With its spacious rooms, large common areas and smart “un-pimp'd” décor, Argyle Backpackers feels more a like a cross between a hotel and a guest house than an out-and-out backpacker hostel Very homely.

Perfect combination of city and suburb

Marchmont is a pretty, peaceful suburb with a very laid-back feel Walk through the nearby (and very lovely) 'Meadows' park though and you're instantly transported into the beating heart of Scotland's bustling capital Wonderful.

Two kitchens!

As well as affording you plenty of opportunities to save a few pennies on eating out, having two good-sized and very comprehensively equipped kitchens on-site also ensures you don't have to wait ages for other guests to finish cooking their meals.

Negative Reviews

You need to use the ground floor WC after 11 30pm

Unsurprisingly, this arrangement is less than ideal if you're staying on one of the upper floors and find yourself needing to 'go' during the night.

Hot water comes and goes

So much so that a lukewarm shower is actually a good result Not good.

Reception is closed during the night

If you have a (non-urgent) problem after 10pm then you'll just have to sit on it and wait until reception opens again in the morning An unusual – and potentially quite irritating - policy for a city-based hostel to have.
