About Hotel The Place

Hotel The Place is a highly individualistic luxury hotel in central Edinburgh offering an impressive choice of rooms from basic economically priced singles to spacious suites.

The 47 diverse, contemporary bedrooms provide smooth Egyptian cotton sheets and complimentary Wi-Fi. They vary in size and shape, right up to a suite equipped with a Caesar bed (8ft wide by 7ft 3ins long) the biggest in Edinburgh.

Hotel The Place is steeped in history, its buildings date from the early 19th Century. Their modern incarnation makes use of light and space, bringing the elegance of the past sensitively up to date.

The cocktail bar is the ideal place for a drink before the show at the nearby Edinburgh Playhouse, whist the lounge and bar menu is both extensive and imaginative, with all dishes being freshly cooked to order.

Princes Street and Edinburgh Castle are close by, whilst golf at St Andrews and Muirfield are within easy car journeys.

Positive Reviews

Superb Central Location

The Place is conveniently located for the attractions of Edinburgh, close to the city centre and public transport The tram from the airport stops outside the hotel. This hotel is most conveniently located for the Edinburgh Playhouse and makes bookings efficiently.

Experienced Friendly and Attentive

The staff are entirely praiseworthy, and were very helpful to guests who were checking in late, as they were to early arrivals, and guidance as to local attractions was invaluable. One guest who was upgraded from a small budget priced room to a suite was amazed and delighted.

Welcome to Good Value

Guests found the hotel welcoming, clean and fresh, and superb value for money. Meals, both in the evening and at breakfast were enjoyable. The bar is really attractive with a great range of drinks and good value bar food. The breakfast was freshly cooked, bright red apples and healthy bananas were available One guest comments that it is the first time she has found scrambled eggs better than her own!

Negative Reviews

Not Easy for the Disabled

There is no lift, those with mobility problems should request a room at a lower level. Nevertheless the views from the higher rooms make the climb worthwhile. Reception had difficulty finding the booking for a second room. The Wi-Fi connection is slow and entering a new code every twenty-four hours is a nuisance.

Too Much Heat

Guests room was too hot, with no controls or air conditioning, the dining room was also rather too warm. Guests found a lack of mineral water, tea or coffee, only a single desk chair, and an inadequate wardrobe with no door.

Not So Gourmet

A limited breakfast menu lacked bacon. A cleaner “wandered” through the breakfast area with cleaning products and equipment. Jam and marmalade was provided in part used pots with broken seals.
