The staff at The Bear are friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to make sure you are enjoying your stay. The bar staff are especially welcoming and will happily have a chat with you.

The location of the hotel is great. It's on the edge of the town's main shopping area and there are lots of restaurants nearby. If you want to head further afield, then the train station is a short stroll from the property and road access is good as well.

The breakfast is freshly cooked and delicious. It's definitely worth getting up for. Similarly, the evening meals are tasty and reasonably priced and the bar has a decent selection of drinks from which to choose.

If your room is at the front of The Bear or above the bar, then you might struggle to get a decent night's sleep. Noise from the revellers and from the music downstairs can be quite obtrusive, especially if there is a function on. Rooms do tend to get a b

Access to many rooms involves climbing a number of very steep stairs. If you have lots of luggage or suffer from mobility issues, you'll find this particularly tough.

The décor here is starting to look rather run down and past its best. There are a few broken window fittings and some furniture could use replacing. A lick of paint and a spruce up would do the world of good. At the moment it feels rather tatty.
